Woodbridge School

The Gents duly assembled at Woodbridge School, the weather reports not promising , however with bacon rolls and coffee on offer for breakfast and no vegetarians in the tea , no one seemed to mind, the gents lost the toss and with overhead conditions suiting the bowlers we were asked to bat,and so it proved 40 minutes before Pickthorn J got off the mark , however he had just driven up from London having partied hard.therefore after a steady start runs accumulated with the loss of both openers, runs bean to flow more freely , big difference this year no 4 balls every over so both number No3 and 4 scored 50,sso at lunch we were 160 for 3 off 32 overs back on course for declaration.

This year the school excelled on lunch with a bbq plus salads ,wonderful , tables with ice buckets with beer and wine wonderful.after lunch the gents continued on their merry way , a highlight being Micky Peck being given Lbw to the only ball he middled. , so after 42 overs we declared 225 for 7 with Simon Aldous playing out the last over a maiden having been set a target of 230.#

In reply the school boys opening batsmen came up against Sam Aldous woo quickly took 2 wickets when it began to rain , tea was taken about1 and half hours after lunch!!  On reconvening Sam took one more wicket , and the rain came again so after 9 overs the school were 20 for 4 when everybody shook hands

We didn’t get to bowl 10 overs so don’t know whether Lewis Duckworth works.

Anyway good time was had and re convene same time next year

Woodbridge School

With overcast skies above Woodbridge School  the Gents were met with coffee and a choice of bacon or sausage baps so it was rather convenient that the start of play was delayed .

This year we had 4 sets of father and sons so upon the skies clearing e opened the batting with a 17year old framlingham pupil and a not much older Old Etonian  , in keeping with schoolboy cricket , after the first hour the

schoolboys had bowled a miserly 12 over luckily for the gents the score was into the nineties with the loss of 1 wicket so by lunch with 15 overs bowled  we were about 120 for one classic tip and run and lovely cover drives , nothing in the air

For lunch the school excelled  chicken chasseur , new potatoes and green beans  followed by apple crumble and custard back onto the match batsmen1 and 3 duly amassed more runs with 17 year Percy showing the Woodbridge schoolboys how it should be done going onto to score 105 not out after 35 overs we declared at 267 for 3.

Woodbridge School reply was a bit hesitant ,undone by young Sam Aldous pace who soon cartwheeled the schools skipper,s off stump  followed up by Toby,s amazing caught and bowled  , there after lovely tea was taken ,1 and half hours after gut bursting lunch. We rolled back on to the playing surface regularly picking up wickets ,until the heavens opened so once again as per the previous year stumps were drawn sand the school had an honourable draw having amassed 118 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Back into the pavilion to round off yet another wonderful day with a couple of bottles of peroni
